Over 100 Surrey revellers celebrated Burns Night in style at a Charity Evening Spectacular, organised by the Rotary Club of Guildford Chantries, on Saturday 22 January 2011 at Guildford’s Park Barn Centre. The Chantries Club is delighted to announce that the event has raised more than £1,000 for the Hascombe Children’s Ward (the Abracadabra Appeal) at the Royal Surrey County Hospital.
With all the traditions of piping in and addressing the haggis (see pic attached), the evening also included a good helping of Robert Burns’ poetry, plenty of Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, rounded off with a lively Ceilidh.
The Abracadabra Appeal aims to redevelop and update the Hascombe Children’s Ward at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, including special facilities for adolescents and parents, and incorporating the very latest advances in paediatric care and equipment.
Mike Danson, President of the Rotary Club of Guildford Chantries said:
“Everyone at Chantries is passionate about improving the facilities for our children and teens at our local Royal Surrey Hospital. Getting everything just right for the night was a real Team effort and the support from the local community was fantastic. We are delighted to have raised such a large sum for the Appeal.”
